July Currently!

I'm joining Farley from Oh' Boy Fourth Grade... for her July Currently Linky Party!

Listening - Why have I never discovered my iTunes Radio before??  I am loving this! Awesome stations with no tuning and classical is perfect background when I really need to focus.  I've tried blogging while watching Grey's Anatomy - no go for me!  Even Top Chef sends my head swiveling away from the computer......
Loving - Time at home! My husband works nights from home as a book reviewer/blogger, so typically when I walk in the door after work it's a quick kiss-how-was-your-day and then off..... I just love that his job allows him to be home with our little girls during the school year, but I love the family time now. And of course....potty training for my youngest, then NO MORE DIAPERS at our house!
Thinking - Too much grade, new school, new room, teaching Math, new blog.......
Wanting - Our master bath is literally in pieces.  And with two young girls, our bathroom time is getting limited! Cut & Color is scheduled with my awesome hair dresser, Marie, for this Thursday. I miss my red!
Needing - Time, time, time...  I've rounded up my parents and aunt to help get my new room shipshape.  Thank goodness for family! And I'm so glad our custodian rearranged the waxing schedule to do my room first so that I can get into it all the rest of the summer. So nice!  I need to get him something awesome......
Reads - Seedfolks is a terrific little book with each chapter told in a different character's voice. So fun to read out loud.  (Although the audio version captures the accents perfectly!)  Robyn Jackson's Never Work Harder Than Your Students & Other Principles of Great Teaching is amazing. It really helped me to plan lessons from the standards->assessment->activities instead of the other way around.

  1. My needing is the same as yours, I NEED a haircut, but I am holding off until August. I don't know why, but it is giving me something to look forward to!

    The Polka-dotted Teacher

    1. Thank you, thank you Jessica!! I'll head on over and check it out.

  5. I found you through Fifth Grade Dugout. Love your blog! I also teach 5th graders; aren't they the best?!

When you read Seedfolks, do you skip the chapter about abortion or leave it in? I have always left it out, but I teach in a Catholic school, so...

    Just curious!
    Inside this Book

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Lynn! This coming fall will be my first year teaching 5th grade. I've taught 6th grade for the past 8 years which is where I taught Seedfolks. And always as the LAST book of the year. I agree, the Maricela chapter can be a little tricky - we always tread very carefully, but the message at the end of the Chapter is very hopeful. Usually my students take that part in stride but giggle whenever a "hoe" is mentioned. That's a nice opportunity to reinforce homophones! :-) By the way....I teach in a public school. And, I don't know that I'd have 5th graders read it.....
