Ice Cream, Interviews, & Instagram!

It's been a crazygreat week! And it's getting to be that part of summer where I wonder how I fit in time to actually WORK during the year. I think I'm in for a rude awakening pretty soon.  :-)  But...not yet.
Here are five highlights from my week.

1 - Interview!
Yesterday I had a great time chatting with Jennifer from Elementary School Garden at Friendly's for Classroom  Q&A.  She had the brilliant idea of a dual interview, so both those posts will be coming early next week. It was fantastic to meet another blogger and "dish" about school, TpT, and of course..ice cream!

2 - Classroom DIY Summer Project!
We've had this old coffee table hanging around our basement for ages. After some Pinspiration, I've got some great plans for it in my classroom. You'll have to stay tuned to see what happens...

3. Classroom Work!
I finally got into my classroom this morning.  It's been so muggy this summer that I swear the chairs were sweating rust on my desks.  EW.
I found a couple chairs in an odd position.......????
And then I set to work removing my old animal print trimmers and putting up new blue and green borders. And I made a little reading nook by rearranging some shelves.
4 - Instagram!!
I don't know why I didn't join earlier! No. Actually I do.  It seemed like one. more. thing. to have to keep up with, and I just didn't want to go there. But after just a day, it's hands down my favorite social media site. The App makes it so easy to share a quick picture, comment, and connect with others. And I LOVE that it's simply social - no promotions and no major time commitment to read tons of text.  Just an image and a chance to let our hair down a little. Just click here to connect!

5 - Zentangle!
Serena's Cool Zentangle
I completely and totally blame Instagram for this. If I had not signed up, I would not have connected with Serena from Magic, Mistakes, & Mayhem.  If I had not followed Serena, I would not have seen her cool Zentangle drawing (shown on the right)... If I had not seen that drawing, I would not have stayed up until 3AM last night Googling "Zentangle" and browsing books and resources through Amazon, buying a Zentangle Kit, watching videos and starting this "betweed" design....

Now I'm hooked.  Here's the video if you want to check it out..

  1. Ahahahaah your title of Instagram and Ice cream caught my attention... then I read down and discovered you were talking about me!

I can't believe you were up until 3am! You've already learned some fancy stuff too! I'm going to watch that video soon!

I do zentangle with my kids because each year they have to do "calendar" art- they create a piece of work that is then made into a calendar and greeting cards for a fundraiser. The kids LOVE zentangle (well actually they hate it at first because of how much care you have to take doing it- but after a week or two of little practices and me going "no slow down, nope, messy, nope don't rush" they click and produce AMAZING work... I'll find one from last year that a kid did to show you

    1. Serena - my sleep deprivation today is all YOUR fault!! ;-) LOL!!
This would be really fun to introduce to my 5th graders. Great for indoor recess days.

  2. Zentangle looks really neat. I will definitely need to check that out. I always forget to post my pics on Instagram that I take. I need to be better about that!
